The Athletics and Recreation Department at Wilfrid Laurier University is committed to providing a safe and fun camp experience for our campers. The safety of our campers, their families and our staff are our priority. We strive to make each camper feel welcome and included while finding a sense of community and a place to feel at home.

Golden Hawks Jr. Lifeguarding Camp (9-12 years): The Jr. Lifeguard and Swim Camp has been designed for swimmers to work on developing and improving swim skills such as endurance and stroke technique while also learning about lifesaving skills and knowledge. Campers will also get an introduction to competitive swimming skills and what it takes to be a lifeguard! Campers will participate in a variety of in-pool and dry-land activities that relate to lifesaving and camp fun! Camp includes: T-shirt, Midas Photo, Friday Lunch & More! 

Prerequisite: Children 9-12 who can swim a minimum of 25 meters and tread water for 2 minutes.

Dates: July 8-12, 2024, July 22-26, 2024, and Aug 12-26, 2024.

Age of Camp Participants/Grouping: JLC is designed for children 9-12 years of age. All campers reaching the minimum age in this year are welcome to join. Our staff to camper is ratio is 1:10 for this age group.

Staff: Enthusiastic Laurier Lifeguards, certified as Lifeguards and in First aid and CPR, and High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development)

Facilities: The Laurier Athletic Complex located at 75 University Ave West, Waterloo. (corner of King Street and University Ave)

Camp hours of operation are from: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $285.00 per child

*Extended Care available for an additional cost

Refund Policy and Notes
In the event that you cancel your child’s camp session, a minimum of 10 days’ notice prior to the start date of the camp is required for a refund, less a $50 administrative fee. Should you fail to give 10 days’ notice, you will be required to pay the full camp fee.

Liability Waiver to be read and agreed to during registration:
I give my permission for my son/daughter to participate in the Golden Hawks Camp Program. We will not hold liable the camp directors, counselors, staff, Wilfrid Laurier University or their staff for any personal theft, illness, or injury sustained while attending. As per the Personal Health Information Protection Act, filling out an OHIP number on a camp application form is voluntary. Should a parent or guardian choose not to supply this information, they should be reachable in the event of an emergency. OHIP Numbers and Medical Information/Allergies are asked for at the checkout process. If you need to supply more information, please email us at camps@laurierathletics.com

I accept my responsibility to abide by the laws of the country, to ensure that I have adequate medical coverage, protect personal possessions, and obey all the rules set out for athletic and recreation activities. I accept full responsibility for my level of participation and use of equipment by exercising my judgment, based on my own experience and competence. In consideration of approval to participate in such activity, I and any personal representative, hold harmless, release and forever discharge Wilfrid Laurier University and Department of Athletics and Recreation, their directors, officers, faculty, staff, students, volunteers, agents, trainees, or employees from any and all actions, causes of actions, claims, and demands for damages, loss or injury, resulting from or arising out of my participation in such activities. I also indemnify and save harmless Wilfrid Laurier University and Department of Athletics and Recreation from any and all actions, causes of actions, demands, expenses or losses whatsoever which they may bear as a result of my participation in such activities, by reason of damage to any and all property and any and all personal injuries, including death of others or myself.
